Handyman work and home repair

Small jobs are real work here, not a favor squeezed between remodels. Doors, drywall, trim, tile, fixtures and the punch list that has been waiting since last season.

You talk to Edgar. Edgar does the work.

Chino's Remodel & Build is Edgar. He measures, cuts and finishes the work himself, from a loose door and a cracked shower bench to a full kitchen. There is no salesperson and no coordinator who was never on site.

  • A detailed estimate before work starts. And a phone call before anything changes it. No silent change orders.
  • Photo updates through the job. Useful when the house is a second home and you are in another state.
  • Permits, inspections and HOA paperwork handled. Edgar pulls the permits and meets the inspectors on site.
  • A clean, protected site. Floors and walkways covered, work areas sealed, and a bathroom and kitchen kept in use whenever possible.

How a job runs with Edgar

  1. Call, text or send the form

Tell Edgar what needs doing and which town the home is in. Photos help, especially if you are not in the valley right now.

  2. Walk-through and a written estimate

Edgar looks at the job with you, or with your property manager, and sends a detailed estimate covering scope, materials and timing.

  3. The work, with updates

Edgar does the work himself and sends photo updates. If something unexpected turns up behind a wall, he stops, shows you, and prices it before going on.

  4. Final walk-through and cleanup

You review the finished work together, the punch list gets closed out, and the site is left clean.

A Vail handyman who also builds

Most homes in the valley need two kinds of help. There is the steady list: a door that sticks after the first freeze, a drywall crack over the stairs, a shower bench that has started to move, trim that dried out and pulled away. Then there is the bigger plan: the kitchen that has not changed since the condo was built, a bathroom that needs to be taken down to the studs, a basement that could finally be a family room. Most people end up calling two different companies for that. With Chino’s Remodel & Build, it is the same person and the same phone number.

That matters more here than in most places. Many owners split their year between the Vail Valley and somewhere else, and plenty of homes sit empty for weeks at a time. You want one contact who answers, knows the house, and tells you plainly what he found. That is how Edgar works on handyman jobs, repairs and full remodels alike.

Remodeling for mountain homes, condos and older houses

The housing in this valley is not one thing. Vail Village and Lionshead are full of condos where every remodel runs through an HOA, a loading dock and set work hours. East and West Vail have chalets with heavy timber and tongue-and-groove ceilings. Avon mixes base-area condos with Wildridge duplexes, and Eagle Ranch has newer family homes built in the 2000s and later. Minturn still has railroad-era cottages where nothing is plumb.

Each of those calls for a different plan. A condo remodel has to protect the unit below and fit the building’s rules. A kitchen remodel in a small footprint is about storage and light. A bathroom remodel lives or dies by the waterproofing nobody sees. And an older home needs someone who expects surprises and prices them honestly.

Built for altitude, snow and dry air

At valley elevations, from about 6,400 feet in Gypsum to about 8,150 feet in Vail, wood, caulk and exterior finishes take a beating from freeze-thaw cycles, strong sun and very dry air. Materials and details are chosen with that in mind: joints that can move, finishes that hold up, and decks designed for the snow loads Eagle County sets. It is the part of the job you cannot see in the photos, and the part that decides whether the work lasts.

Construction and general contracting, without the runaround

Some projects are bigger than a remodel: an addition, a structural fix, a whole-house rebuild. For those, Chino’s Remodel & Build works as your general contractor, handling the plan, the permits, the schedule and the plumbers and electricians the job calls for, while Edgar stays on site and on the phone.

Questions homeowners ask Edgar

Do you take small handyman jobs, or only big remodels?
Both. Doors, trim, drywall repair, fixture swaps, tile patches and punch lists are regular work, not favors squeezed in between remodels. See handyman services.
Which towns do you work in?
Vail, Minturn, Eagle-Vail, Avon and Beaver Creek, Edwards and Eagle, plus Gypsum when the schedule allows. Every town has its own page under service areas.
Can you manage a project while I am out of state?
Yes. That is normal here. Edgar sends photo updates through the job and is the same person on site every day, so you have one point of contact. He can also coordinate access with your property manager or HOA.
Do you handle permits and HOA approvals?
Yes. Permit applications, scheduling inspections and meeting inspectors on site are part of the job, and so is the paperwork condo buildings ask for before work starts. The permit guide explains who issues permits where.
What happens if you find something unexpected behind a wall?
Edgar stops, photographs it, explains the options and the cost, and gets your approval before moving on. Nothing gets added to the bill without a conversation first.
How much will my project cost?
It depends on the scope, the materials, access to the home and the time of year. Estimates are free and written. Our remodeling cost page explains what moves the number in the Vail Valley.
When is the best time to book a remodel?
Spring mud season and September through mid-November are the easiest windows, especially for condos. Booking a few months ahead keeps a project out of ski season. More in the best time to remodel in the Vail Valley.
